Background
As some of you may know, our products are designed here in Sydney, Australia, but are manufactured in China - CNC machining, injection moulding and PCB fabrication.
There are basically no viable alternatives in Australia or the US without tripling the price of the product or more.
Many have tried, and failed, including those we have collaborated with (see Kangaroo keyboard by Jono/Impulse Boards).
Tariffs and tax-free threshold
The $800 tax-free threshold will be removed on May 2nd.
As many of our products originate from China, they will be just to import tax at a rate of 30% of the total order value (incl. shipping).
There is also a minimum of $25 which will jump to $50 June 1st.
Source: Customs and Border Protection.
Some of you may accept that, and we thank you for your support.
However it could increase at any time, so by the time your package arrives, the tax rate could be much higher.
What this means for you (as a US customer)
If you are happy to accept the eventual tax bill from your government, then place an order as normal and someone will contact you directly to confirm.
We thank you for your support.
If you aren't willing to gamble with the tariffs then please hold off ordering for now. You may elect to ship to a friend in Australia who can forward the package to you.
This is done at your own risk of course, but it is an option.
We are no liable for any import tax incurred. In the event that the tax is not paid and the order sent back, the shipping cost will be deducted from your refund.
Moving forward
All we can do is keep an eye on developments and wait.
We have a handful of products that are not made in China and will be subject to lower tariffs.
